The Name of Our Foundation Goes Beyond the Borders of Turkey!

The Alp Şen Foundation was initiated by Alp Ali Şen with his friends and teacher. The Enka iyİLİK Project was founded in 2014 by his parents, Begüm and Adnan Şen, to keep the memory of him alive and to reproduce the unique beauty he left to the world with his natural kindness and loving heart towards people in need of help.

As Alp Şen Foundation, we work devotedly to support our children needing bone marrow transplantations. We are very grateful to all our friends who have stood by and helped us walk this path. Without you, we would not have been able to reach so many.

Today, we would like to inform you that the name of our foundation goes beyond the borders of Turkey. Giorgio Armani, one of the leading names in the fashion world, has donated the proceeds from the event he held in Los Angeles, which we are very grateful for. We send our sincere gratitude to all our supporting friends, especially Giorgio Armani, who supported us with this special event.
We will continue to work hard for our goodwill project, so please continue to follow us

“We Aim to Be Hope For More Patients”

In his speech at the opening ceremony, Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak mentioned the activities of IU Istanbul Medical Faculty Bone Marrow Bank; and said, “The purpose of Bone Marrow Bank of Istanbul Faculty of Medicine is to reach the most suitable donor candidate as soon as possible, for those undergoing treatment in Turkey and all around the world and for the patients having a bone marrow transplant is of vital importance and to ensure the healthiest operation of the transport organization. Istanbul Medical Faculty Bone Marrow Bank has contributed to bone marrow transplantation for 735 patients with the devoted work of our staff since 2008. Thanks to the donations made by various volunteer organizations during the service period, 5000 volunteer donors were added to our database. Thanks to the Alp Şen Tissue Typing and Genetics Research Laboratory established with the valuable contributions of Alp Şen Foundation and the kit materials they provide, we aim to give hope to more patients in a shorter time by further strengthening our database in a very short time.

"It will be possible to make 30 Thousand Tissue Typing Analysis "

In his speech, Ali Şen said, “They bought tissue typing kits from abroad and with donations on the way they started with the name of Enka Goodness Project. After Alp passed away, we established the Alp Şen Foundation in November 2014 in order to extend a helping hand to our children and people who are waiting for a bone marrow transplant. Istanbul Medical Faculty Alp Şen Tissue Typing and Genetics Research Laboratory will be a beacon of hope for patients with leukemia and severe blood diseases.

Adnan Şen said: “I was surprised when he explained the project. When I was at that age, I had no idea of reaching out to those in need or getting together for them. We wanted this to be permanent.”

IU Istanbul Faculty of Medicine Bone Marrow Bank aims to be a ray of hope for many patients who are waiting for bone marrow, with the goal of 30 thousand tissue typing analysis per year, thanks to this laboratory that was established for the first time. Until now, tissue typing analysis of only 500-1200 volunteer donors could be performed in a year at IU Istanbul Medical Faculty due to the insufficiency of the kits to perform the analysis. Equipped with the latest technology used in this field in the world, the laboratory will enable patients to find donors and bone marrow transplants in a much shorter time.

World Donor Day - Alp Şen Foundation Organization

On Saturday, September 19, 2015, we organized the World Donor Day celebrations with the cooperation of Alp Şen iyİLİK Project team and Istanbul Faculty of Medicine Bone Marrow Bank. We are proud and happy that we took one more step in the name of bone marrow donation by celebrating the event that took place at the Istanbul Medical Faculty Kemal Atay Amphitheater at the same time with all the world's marrow banks.

Alp Şen iyİLİK Project was introduced during the event, and a presentation was made by Defne Alver and Nesrin Kianni, the project leaders, on conscious voluntary donation. Prof. Dr. Fatma Oğuz Savran and Prof. Dr. Sevgi Kalayoğlu Beşışık shared some ideas on donation of stem cells, bone marrow banking, and the situation of the bone marrow banks in Turkey and in the world. Following the speeches, which included the questions of the participants, blood samples were taken from the volunteers for marrow analysis.

During the cocktail, the book titled iyİLİK Garden of Alp, written by Ceyda Yılmaz, the project coordinator teacher, was sold and Ceyda Yılmaz signed her books. The revenue obtained was donated to the Alp Şen foundation in order to support the new marrow matching laboratory to be established within the body of Istanbul University Bone Marrow Bank.

The Big Step in the Path of Goodness that Alp Şen Left to the World:

Alp Şen Foundation Signed an Agreement with Istanbul University to Establish a New Marrow Matching Laboratory.

With the "New Generation Sequencing Unit" to be established with this agreement that is signed between the Alp Şen Foundation and Istanbul University, the current test capacity, which is 3,500 per year, will increase to 23,500.

Alp’s Kindness Garden: A very heartfelt and valuable book.
To keep our beloved son’s memory alive.

The architect of Kindness Project, in which our dearly beloved son was involved, and also our Alp’s dear teacher Ceyda Ateş, has wished to share the Kindness journey they embarked together with Alp and her feelings in a unique book.

We thank Ceyda Ateş for sincerely and unrequitedly sharing her deep memories and feelings, which are worth a treasure to us, in the Alp’s Kindness Garden Book. We have founded Alp Sen Foundation to carry on Alp’s helpfulness by helping thousands of patients and children who are waiting for ‘Marrow’.

Our dear Ceyda Teacher, with her book filled with memories and feelings, has once more reminded us we are following Alp’s steps on the path to Kindness. We believe that using the revenues generated from the sale of this book towards Alp Sen Foundation, will make these memories and shared feelings valuable not only for us, but also for larger masses.

Under the scope of “ENKA Kindness Days” which took place on 20-22 November, activities such as cupcake and t-shirt sales throughout the school, Alp Ali Şen memorial ceremony and an organization called “ENKA iyİLİK Gathering” were realized. These events were very successful and beneficial with the support of 20 students under the guidance of Biology teacher Ceyda Yılmaz.

An olive tree was planted on Thursday November 20th during the short memorial service convened for Alp Ali Sen. During this meaningful ceremony which was also realized with the participation of Sen family, 12th grade students read Nazim Hikmet’s “On Life” poem and made clear that they did not forget Alp and will remain together to carry his name to eternity. During Enka Kindess Day, t-shirts, cupcakes, bookmarks and souvenirs were sold at 4 stands across the High school, Middle school, Elementary school and kindergarten. It was quite exciting to see elementary school students who made a substantial profit from the sales gaining dominance over the project and following their elders’ steps.

As for “Enka Kindness Gathering” which took place on Saturday, November 22nd, with the participation of 150 individuals from different schools, accomplishments and future goals of “Alp Sen Kindness Project” were expressed. During this event, which was organized to inspire all schools to start a Kindness project within, very positive feedbacks were received. Many schools shared their action plans with us and took the next step to open a club in their school. At the same event, a panel called “Problems faced during Marrow transplant process and solution proposals” moderated by Okan Bayulgen and with the participation of Prof. Dr. Mustafa Çetiner, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Özcan, Prof. Dr. İrem Yaluğ Ulubil, Prof. Dr. Fatma Savran Oğuz, Defne Samyeli, Engin Altan Düzyatan and Bahadır Akbaş was realized.
